Welcome to a stylish home of calm, and pure natural balance. This beautiful space is infused with all the ingenuity and intuitiveness you could want from a home. There is a relaxed, understated and honest feel to this home. A serenity that exudes from the trees and plants adorning the house along with the natural textures and textiles that invite you in … in fact you may feel so comfortable here you may never want to leave!
In this house you will find a garden inside and a living area outside. All the senses are touched in this space from the water feature in the beautiful garden space to the fragrance of nature, the taste of pure ground coffee and the sound of the rainforest while you shower.
Concept - Hip, Unique, Haven
My concept for these rooms is for a haven to relax and retreat from the outside urban noise and freneticism. For all the family to have calm and peace to relax. Nature surrounds you in this house. To start your journey through, there is the stunning olive tree in the main hallway, leading you to the very pretty and symmetrical garden. There is a huge sense of space and light here as the layout is open and items in these rooms are large scale. Yoga in front of the Zen garden area, will be the perfect setting. Natural, organic materials are used in the house, such as stone, wood, linens, cottons and wool. The atmospheric lights in the garden are seen from all parts of the living areas at night, and the rooms are separated with glass dividers that fold easily back.
The unique huge scaled art that adorns the living room wall, the gorgeous blue glass sculptures, the unique reclaimed wood used throughout the house and the Olive trees are all stunning decorative elements for the space and give Effra the unique and stylish atmosphere it deserves.
Nature surrounds you but this is fused seamlessly with the technology and innovations all would desire for easy living.
The kitchen has all the state-of the-art science you could want. The living room hosts the magnificent Bang and Olufsen TV which is revealed with the touch of a button and the sound system is built into the ceilings in the most discreet form.
The bold cabinetry of the Tom Howley kitchen is painted in a cool stylish gunmetal colour, and the industrial style chunky reclaimed wood breakfast bar is just perfect for relaxed times with family or friends.
As you walk through for dinner with your guests you enter a very special space for entertaining. Here you will sit at the large live edge wood table and grab a drink at the Buster and Punch funky drinks cabinet. The wall shelves are full of artifacts and books on one side and elegant cupboards on the other and the light white soft curtains and blinds elegantly decorate the front window.
The bathroom is a delight for all who venture there including the yoga guests who can enjoy a shower to the sound of the rainforest and bask in this room of natural wonder. The sink is flower shaped in exquisite black glass, and the dew drop shower and plant shaped taps are just stunning.
Throughout the whole space, colours are calm and neutral but with dramatic accents and contrasts to give depth. There is warmth and a strong texture of wood with the stunning accents of rich blues dotted around and the colour ‘pops’ in the artwork. The walls throughout are kept white and fresh to allow the light to reach and flow through the rooms. The dividers are made of glass to allow further light through all the spaces. This beautiful space is designed to reflect our client’s desires and their lives with it’s holistic and natural approach.
The exquisite tree in the entrance is the star of this show and hopefully one day it may even produce some beautiful fruit…

Period Designs for the drawing room of an Early Georgian Apartment
Meard St Soho, London
As you walk into this glorious drawing room in central London, the light sweeps in through the huge and most beautiful Georgian windows. Symmetry has been used to full effect. Palladian and Rococo elements create a beautiful flow as your eyes follow through the room. Colours are light and charming with soft neutrals and accents of blue. Blue was a favoured colour of the period noted in Chiswick House by James Gibbs and the Parlour Room in Henrietta Street. Stone colours, greys and whites were used in the early eighteenth century and are popular now.
Window seats have been re-created as key features from the period, allowing the windows to be enjoyed to the full. Either side of the windows, fine panelled shutters sit perfectly into the wall space. These can be used for cosiness at night, for privacy, or left to simply frame and enhance the windows in the stylish manner they deserve. The windows are also highlighted with exquisite festoon blinds in a glorious blue silk fabric that is true to the time. This swash of taffeta dresses the windows with colour and luxurious texture and the blinds beautifully catch light on the swathes of fabric. These were a typical window dressing of these times.
Throughout the room, the wood panelling creates interest and warmth to the room, and adds the balance and symmetry so key to the period. All the smartest of houses in this period were adorned with the latest in interior design. Including panelling, the most stylish fireplaces, stylish artefacts, Chinoiserie and chandeliers that showed the wealth and style of the family. The features of a modest London property were fairly restrained and tasteful with some Rococo fanciful flair.
The creator of these buildings in 1740, John Meard was a highly respected carpenter, and would most certainly have inserted plenty of wooden features into the property.
The wall opposite the fireplace is adorned with a spectacular hand crafted wooden bookcase. This wooden piece is painted in a contemporary pale grey, with opening doors to the TV entertainment system. The media systems can easily be enjoyed from the comfort of the sofas due to their central position in the room. This is where classic style meets contemporary finish and lifestyle.
The eye is focused towards the majestic stone fireplace and the stunning Rococo antique styled mirror above. There are two secret doors containing storage behind and these are decorated in exquisite hand painted Chinoiserie decoration. This gives a unique feel and gorgeous artistry to this hero area of the room, drawing attention to the central fireplace. Cosy in the evening, the central Georgian fireplace by Jamb sits perfectly in the space.
Two extremely comfortable yet elegant sofas with Cabriole legs sit centrally for entertaining and relaxing in the space. The textiles are contemporary and lift the mood of the room and Rococo design is used to playfully add pattern. Also two high wing back leather chairs, are current in appearance but still true to the period.
Lighting at night is atmospheric and soft. This is created by the wall sconces and chandelier lights that can be dimmed and the hidden lights behind the abstract and modern art on the walls and in the bookcase. This theme of fusion contemporary and classic works beautifully in a modern day Georgian London apartment owned by our young clients Lucy and Sebastian Buchanan. They requested the Georgian styling and features appropriate for the date of this building, and this has been achieved with close and careful attention to detail but with this there is the infusion of comforts and artefacts for modern day living.
